Things were looking great for Rip Curl Finalist Ethan Ewing. Ewing has had a wonderful season this year.
However, things came to a screeching halt just days before the Tahitian WSL event. The event was supposed to take place in the scenic Teahupo’o, Tahiti, French Polynesia. But due to the recent turn of events, things look bleak for Ethan Ewing and his fans.
Famous surfing daily BeachGrit broke the news about Ewings’s accident and his subsequent withdrawal from the tournament.
This took the surfing community by storm as several fans were waiting for Ewing’s performance in the finals. Sources claim that the WSL is all set to replace Ewing due to unforeseen events.
Ethan Ewing is one of the few surfers who conquered the treacherous waves of the Tahitian waters.
The young surfer’s social media effectively documents the former’s expectations regarding the tournament. However, it all came to a halt due to a serious back injury, which could have even ended the surfer’s life.
According to BeachGrit, the accident took place at around 9:30 am in the morning. While practicing, Ewing was hit by a solid six-foot wave that knocked him off his board.
As a result, he sustained serious back injuries and had to be towed to land via jetskis. The worldwide surfing community was heartbroken after the news of the Aussie surfer’s unfortunate accident.
But this accident did open a window of opportunity for other contenders, who are expected to take Ewing’s place in the championship.
One such surfer is a Tahitian named Mihimana Braye. This came as a breath of fresh air for surfing fans, as Braye is lauded by many as one of the best surfers coming out of Tahiti.
Therefore, it is just a matter of time before we see what the waves of Tahiti hold for one of its natives.
