Deion Sanders is a man who is known to have donned several hats throughout his professional life. Not only was he a baseball and football athlete.
But like many athletes in the 90s, Deion also tried his hand or lent his voice to rapping. And now, Prime Time is back with a new avatar, ‘Coach Prime.’
The Colorado Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders, has become the talk of the town once again after his 3-0 clean record in the NCAA tournament. In a recent video, Deion Sanders explained the reason behind the moniker Prime Time.
And this left the LA Lakers’ legendary baller Shaquille O’Neal absolutely awestruck.
The Name And The Revolution
Surprisingly, the name Prime Time was not at all a name that was given to Sanders by his beloved fans. In fact, it was part of a script that Sanders himself started in an effort to find a newer direction.
Similar to Sanders, Shaq or Shaquille O’Neal is also a man of several monikers. Some of the most famous ones include Big Diesel, DJ Diesel, NBA champ, TV Host, actor, and everything in between.
Some would say that Shaq is a person who was eventually going to become an all-round entertainer and nothing else.
But when it comes to Sanders, the narrative was a little different. There are two primary reasons behind this cause.
Sander’s Narrative:
In a recent interview, Sanders explained his POV saying, “The defensive backs wasn’t paid what they were worth and I created a character… If you kick the ball or throw the ball to me, you are gonna hear the band play. I had already scripted that”.
And the second reason was to change how the organization would look at defensive backs. Prime Time’s exceptional footballing capabilities mesmerized fans and officials alike.
As a result, defensive backs’s payments experienced major increase. Therefore, one might say that Sander’s decision not only helped him create a name for himself but enhanced the overall environment for his fellow players.
This interview caught Shaq’s attention, and he lauded Sanders for such subtlety and intelligence. Coming from a similar background himself, Shaq understood what Dein aimed at and appreciated him for doing so.
