Sean Strickland has done it. After defeating Israel Adesanya, Sean went on to become the middleweight champion. Following this landslide moment, Dana White has released a statement saying that a rematch is in order.
The UFC President recently took a moment and addressed his statement for an immediate rematch during a press conference.
Nobody expected Sean Strickland to win against Izzy in any shape or form. However, fate had its own plans, and Sean Strickland went from an underdog to a champion.
But what caught people’s attention more was Dana White’s immediate call for a rematch. This did not sit with several fans, and many of them lambasted Dana White for an unnecessary call for a rematch.
As a result, the internet and sports journals were full of criticisms. This did not sit well with the UFC president at all. In a recent interview in Sydney, the 54-year-old was candid. He made some fiery comments, such as, “I saw the stupid f**ing sh*t that was written by stupid f**ing websites.”
Upon further questioning, White continued, “Never once did I say, ‘Yes, we’re gonna f***ing do this rematch.’ I said, ‘Yeah, rematch sounds, you know, we’ll see what happens.’’”
Rematch?
White made it clear that the rematch is not happening for sure and is just something that the board is still thinking about. But sources suggest that White is really pushing his idea of a rematch. This is something that is confusing fans.
In public, Dana White is presenting a neutral standpoint, saying, “There’s obviously lots of options out there, and we’ll see what happens.” But in reality, Dana is actually pushing for this match. There is no knowing what will happen next, but as of now, a rematch is in the works somehow.
