According to the club website, Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo have terminated the latter’s contract “by mutual agreement,” the report said.
After the viral interview with Piers Morgan on BeanymanSports, Manchester United have confirmed to part ways with their beloved number 7. In the interview, Ronaldo pointed out many discrepancies in the club, saying that, in his opinion, the club’s “progress was zero” after he left for Real Madrid in 2008.
He further pointed out that on the technological and infrastructure front, the club did not have any progress at all.
In addition to that, the 37-year-old claimed that he was “betrayed” by the club’s management. He was also of the opinion that the club and the manager Eric Ten Hag did not have respect for him. Hence he also doesn’t have respect for the manager either.
After being asked about how the club treated him, Ronaldo replied that he had never met the club owners and they didn’t care about the club. He also criticized the involvement of the senior-level executives in unsettling him. He remarked,
“some people don’t want me here, not only this year but last year too!”
When asked about his future with Man Utd, CR7 replied that he is currently focused on the World Cup, where he will captain the Portugal National Team.
All these statements from Cristiano Ronaldo ended his relationship with Manchester United, as both parties mutually decided to terminate the contract.
Fans and football pundits are of mixed opinions regarding the incident.
Some say that he should not have talked about the club in such a manner in public. But, at the same time, others are of the opinion that Cristiano Ronaldo, being a genuine well-wisher of the club, pointed out big gaps in the club’s management and infrastructure.
Whatever the reason, in fact, football fans felt unhappy to see one of the most well-cherished relationships in football end like this.
As per the website report, Manchester United thanked him “for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.”
