Exceeding people’s expectations, Durian Yates chose the life of a bodybuilder. His unwavering dedication and discipline have made this man a shining star in the skies of bodybuilding. In fact, his dedication and skills were so amazing that he is the only Englishman who has won the title of Mr Olympia, after winning the Sandow trophy for 6 consecutive years from 1992 to 1997.
But things were not so good for the Englishman from the get-go. In fact, his journey to six consecutive wins came after 1988. 1988 was one of the toughest years for the bodybuilder. He recalled spending hours and even days in the gymnasium. However, the hard work paid off, and Yates managed to secure his very first pro card. This started it all.
Golden Era
The bodybuilder recently revisited his golden era moments to talk about his journey to become one of the biggest names in the business. In a recent instagram post by the bodybuilder, Dorian Yates uploaded a picture of him from that period, along with a heartfelt note that read, “it meant the world to me”. The post was detailed and touched on some of the best moments from Yates’ bodybuilding career.
He also reminisced how people had certain notions about success and bodybuilding. According to Yates, “People think of bodybuilders as having the lifestyles they see in the magazines, but only thetop professionals can afford that dream, if they even want it. When I won this contest in ’88, it did nothing to immediately improve how I lived. I may have had a car, but it was only a Ford Cortina. My life was as far away from hanging around on Californian beaches and driving convertibles. I had a good life because I was living how I wanted to, but I had no trappings of success, just a few trophies”. This shows the struggle Yates had to face in order to become the best for six consecutive years.Keep following us for more sports-related stories and content.
