Today, the racing community woke up to the sad news of the passing of famed journalist Norris McDonald. Norris was a former super-modified racer who later decided to become a journalist. He won several accolades for his racing capabilities and was even inducted in the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame. The man lived and breathed racing. There was only one thing on his mind, speed.
Norris McDonald was one of the journalists who covered the prestigious Oswego Speedway for 15 long years. Later on, he was replaced as an announcer. However, even the best of rides come to an end, and it is true for Norris as well. Over this weekend, Canada’s racing scene lost a shining beacon.
The Last Ride.
From piloting high-end machines built for speed to the editorial bench of the racing daily Toronto Star, Norris McDonald was one of the biggest and brightest stars in the racing sky. He managed to achieve exceptional fame covering racing stories. His influence was so widespread that NASCAR shared an official statement elaborating on the veteran’s death.
NASCAR’s official statement said, “NASCAR is saddened by the passing of Norris McDonald, a true giant in motorsports journalism. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Apart from NASCAR, Sirius XM Host and journalist Dave Moody also shared his side saying, “Norris McDonald has passed away at age 80. Former Editor of the Toronto Star’s motorsports section, nobody understood Canadian motorsports better. In 2014, he became the first journalist to be inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.”
