Former UFC and now a BKFC star, Mike Perry has always been a fan favorite. With his unique all-action, brawling style of fighting, he has managed to rise in fame.
But back in 2021, UFC fans were greeted with the sudden news of Perry leaving the UFC to move to BKFC. This left fans disheartened and speculating about the cause of his leaving.
When Perry was questioned about his return to UFC, he confirmed that he had no plan on returning to his former organization. Ever since his debut in 2021, Perry has made his mark in the BKFC.
Fighting and winning against vicious fighters like Venom Page, Julian Lane, and Luke Rockhold, Perry has made quite a name for himself.
Therefore, it is understandable that many fans of the fighter want him to return to UFC. In a recent interview with The MMA Hour, when Perry asked about his return, he had a controversial insight.
According to Mike Perry, the reason he will not return to UFC anytime soon is because of the massive pay cut he will have to face.
The Love Lost
When the host of the show asked Perry something along similar lines, he went candid and said, “No, because the pay cut would have been too massive. So, it’s like whatever. And it’s 5-minute rounds, and it’s MMA, and you know, I like the boxing.”
Moreover, Perry believes that MMA, and especially UFC, does not provide him the flexibility to flourish, unlike bare-knuckles boxing. Therefore, in an effort to remain true to his style, Perry has decided to stay with BKFC for the time being.
This conversation touched upon a very important topic about fighters getting underpaid. In fact, this is by no means a new topic that has come up. Earlier on, several fighters like Jon Fitch, Dan Hardy, and John Cholish have expressed their dismay at underpaid salaries.
To this, Dana White has always maintained these are mere efforts to tarnish the organization’s good name and nothing else.
