Shaq, Big Diesel, The Ginormous, etc. You know him by several names, but whatever names you know him by, success is always synonymous with his name. Recently, Shaquille O’Neal ticked off another thing off his to-do list. Recently, Shaq ended up owning his very own NBA team.
In the past, Shaq owned a minority stake, but he has gradually transitioned from that to a majority owner. Sources suggest that he is bringing a team to Las Vegas, a business capital for the ex-player and entrepreneur. But now the rumors are that he might be eyeing an ownership stake in an existing NBA team.
The Magic Begins
Back in 1992, Orlando Magic took in an LSU standout, Shaquille O’Neal, in the first overall draft. In the very first week, Shaq became the Player of the Week. Not only that, as time went by, Shaq eventually became the 1993 Rookie of The Year, and that would eventually change the fate of the team.
From there onwards, Shaq would go on to become one of the highest-earning players in the NBA league with teams such as the Lakers and Heat. However, his very first team still remains very important for him. It holds a special corner in his heart. And he has publicly expressed his wish to become the owner of the NBA team Magic. According to his own words, “I’m interested in a certain team in Florida…I don’t know that[if it’s for sale or not], but if it is, I want to be that guy.” This shows his love for the team that started it all for him.
O’neal might have grown beyond the forays of Basketball to become an entrepreneur, but he has certainly not left his love for his first team behind. In fact, he is now wanting to own stakes in the team.
