The much-awaited toss for the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was delayed because of heavy rainfall earlier on Sunday.
It started drizzling about 30 minutes before the toss before the intensity picked up – lightning and thunder followed – and the fans were forced to retreat. If the match could have been started by 9:40 PM local time, then no over would have been lost.
The match has to be conducted on a reserve day, i.e. the next day (according to IPL rules) if a proper 5 over game isn’t possible till 12:26 pm local time while the max cut-off time is 12:56 pm for a Super Over.
However if the match is affected on the reserve day due to weather conditions, the team that won the first position after the end of the league round, will be declared the winner of IPL 2023.
While four-time winning champions, Chennai Super Kings have finished at second with a solid 17 points, the defending champions, Gujrat Titans have managed to score a whopping 20 points, becoming the only team to win 10 out of 14 IPL matches this season.
