Ever since Carllos Alcaraz broke into the tennis scene, he has often been compared to a 37-year-old tennis legend. And fans see no harm in this comparison. The tennising legend whom Alcaraz is usually compared to is none other than Rafael Nadal. Recently, a video from seven years back resurfaced, where our beloved Carlito was admiring his compatriot and colleague Rafael Nadal.
Carlito’s admiration and respect for Rafa is nothing new. Carlito has publicly admired the left-handed Mallorcan. Ever since Carlito was young, he only dreamt of being a tennis player like Rafael Nadal. And now, that young man has grown on to become one of the youngest players to win two Grand Slam titles.
Throwback
Seven years back, Carlito appeared in the under-14 stage of the Rafael Nadal Tour for junior players in Spain. During the event, Carlito was interviewed, and the young tennis wiz said, “I want to be top 10 in the world. I want to be like Rafa Nadal because he trains very hard, sacrifices himself & puts in a lot of effort.” Such a strong statement from a young man was certainly a foreshadowing of whatever was supposed to come.
Alcaraz was just 4 when he started playing tennis. By the time he was just 5, Alcaraz had managed to become a professional player. Alcaraz made his debut in ATP main draw at the age of 16, back in 2020. Alcaraz managed to become one of the youngest players to rise to the ranks of the top 10 of the ATP rankings. Something Rafa also managed to achieve back in 2005.
Therefore, young Carlito’s wishes to become like his role model Rafael Nadal are certainly paying off. He is currently one of the most dominant players on the court and has already won two major Grand Slam titles. However, the journey is not over yet.
